The ready-to-use powder mixture is available in the conventional version with sugar or sugar-free, based on Isomalt. The latter is a sugar substitute obtained from sucrose. Compared to sugar, isomalt crystallises transparently. This gives colored coatings a brilliant, shiny color. The sugar substitute has the property of drying faster than sugar – which reduces the process time.
From the classic, manual three-step process (application/spreading/drying) to the automated and continuous spraying process, IsuPolish® offers the right and efficient solution for every application process.
What is Sugar-Coating?
Sugar-coating is a traditional process in the pharmaceutical and confectionery industry in which tablets or other solid oral dosage forms are coated with a layer of sugar. This method is used to achieve various benefits:
- Flavor enhancement: masking unpleasant tastes and odors of the active ingredients, making them more pleasant to take.
- Protection of the active ingredients: protection from moisture, light and air, which could affect the stability and efficacy of the active ingredients.
- Appearance and acceptability: improving the external appearance of the tablets, which increases patient acceptance. Sugar-coated tablets are often shiny and colorful.
- Identification and branding: Ability to use colored coatings to make different products easily identifiable and support branding.
